Steve TewIn this month’s Executive Connection, Direct Selling News Publisher and Editor in Chief John Fleming speaks to Steve Tew, President, 4Life, about his greatest challenge, his vision for the company and much more.

DSN: What is the one thing you enjoy most about being the top executive of 4Life?
Tew: The most enjoyable aspect is seeing the changes occur in the lives of people around the world in so many ways. Improved health, achieving financial security and providing service to others are just some of the things I see.

DSN: What has been your greatest challenge since assuming this position?
Tew: The most challenging thing I have dealt with is trying to keep up with our distributors and their desire to share the 4Life opportunity with people around the world. In just 12 short years, we have opened offices in 19 countries and are doing business in more than 50 countries around the world, which has provided some very unique challenges.

DSN: What’s been the most fun part of the job?
Tew: There is nothing more enjoyable than being able to be in the field meeting and associating with our 4Life distributors. Given the numerous markets in which we operate, it is a unique opportunity to get to know so many wonderful people with such diverse cultures and personalities. Yet, even with such diversity, the positive effect of the 4Life opportunity remains consistent around the world.

DSN: How would you describe the ideal 4Life distributor?
Tew: The ideal 4Life distributor is an individual whose values and goals are aligned with ours in terms of integrity, enthusiasm for the product and opportunity, and who especially wants to help others share in this success.

DSN: What is your vision for 4Life?
Tew: My vision of 4Life is to become the most viable and impactful opportunity available to assist people in achieving their goals and dreams.

DSN: Is there one basic principle which governs your leadership at 4Life?
Tew: The underlying philosophy I try to instill into our organization is to be the very best at providing the utmost in service and support to our distributors. Thus, characteristics like dedication, commitment and integrity become fundamental principles of the company.

DSN: Leaders usually draw on something or someone for inspiration, guidance and direction. Do you have a hero or heroine?
Tew: I don’t necessarily look to a particular individual, but I am most inspired by the amazing accomplishments of a number of our distributors. To see the obstacles and challenges which they often must overcome provides tremendous motivation and inspiration to me to do all that is possible to help them succeed.

DSN: What’s the best advice you ever got?
Tew: The best advice I have received is to surround yourself with the best people possible. Nothing increases your ability to succeed more than a powerful team.

DSN: What do you see as our industry’s greatest challenge?
Tew: One of the biggest challenges we face on a worldwide basis is the current regulatory environment. We face significant challenges that could pose a serious threat to our industry relating to product regulations, product claims, product registrations, direct selling regulations, etc.

DSN: What do you like to do for fun?
Tew: When time permits, I enjoy getting outdoors for a round of golf or to run or ride a bike.
