Avon Launches Corporate Responsibility Blog

Avon Products Inc. launched the company’s first corporate blog, Avon’s Calling, as part of the company’s commitment to transparency and communication on the many facets of corporate responsibility. This blog is in addition to the beauty blog, Avon Insider, launched earlier this year.

New content will post every Tuesday, covering ideas, news and perspectives relevant to Avon’s three mission areas, which include empowering women, sustainability and philanthropy, as well as the wide-ranging areas encompassed by the ever-changing concept of corporate responsibility.

In related news Avon Hello Green Tomorrow marked UN World Environment Day, June 5, by mobilizing people around the globe to help restore two of the most critically endangered tropical forests in the world, in South America and Indonesia—forests which serve as the “lungs of the earth.”

Hello Green Tomorrow 2012 fundraising products are being launched in 51 countries around the world, with all proceeds consolidated and contributed to The Nature Conservancy for restoration of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil and to World Wildlife Fund to help restore the tropical forests of Indonesia (Borneo and Sumatra).

In just two years, Hello Green Tomorrow generated more than $3.5 million and restored thousands of acres through partnerships with The Nature Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund, and much more will be raised in 2012.

Avon, the company for women, is the world’s largest direct seller, marketing to women in more than 100 countries through approximately 6.4 million active independent Avon Sales Representatives.

Arbonne Executive Honored at Women’s Event

Kay Napier, CEO of Arbonne, was among five businesswomen honored at the 18th annual Women in Business Awards in Irvine, Calif. presented by the Orange County Business Journal.

Napier was recognized for her 37-day turnaround of Arbonne as CEO, bringing it out of bankruptcy and into a growth cycle. What also emerged was a company with 80 percent less debt and 2010 revenue of $353 million.

The 229 women nominated for the award had areas of expertise that included finance, real estate, fashion and beauty, and nonprofit, to name a few.

Founded in 1980, Arbonne’s mission has been to develop and distribute Swiss-formulated skincare products that are pure, safe and effective. Arbonne markets its products exclusively through more than 550,000 Arbonne independent consultants doing business in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Mary Kay Helps Child Survivors of Domestic Violence

Mary Kay Inc. and The Mary Kay Foundation℠ are building four new Nature Explore Classrooms at women’s shelters across the United States as a part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, Pink Changing Lives℠. Shelters providing services to survivors of domestic violence with outdoor space available to accommodate learning stations and equipment are eligible to apply. By the end of 2012, Mary Kay will have sponsored 17 Nature Explore Classrooms to help child survivors of domestic violence heal from abuse, representing a combined donation and support of nearly $800,000 since the program’s inception in 2009.

Nature Explore Classrooms are outdoor learning spaces designed to include nature in the daily lives and learning of children. Research shows that nature buffers the impact of life stress on children and helps them deal with adversity. It also helps reduce or eliminate anti-social behavior such as violence, bullying and vandalism, all of which are common in children who have witnessed or experienced abuse.

Mary Kay Inc., The Mary Kay Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation partnered with Dimensions Educational Research Foundation to build the Nature Explore Classrooms. There are 13 Nature Explore Classrooms to date that have been sponsored and opened by Mary Kay.

By the end of 2012, The Mary Kay Foundation will have donated more than $31 million to organizations providing domestic violence education and prevention programs.

Primerica Named 2012 Corporation of the Year

Primerica was recently honored as the 2012 Corporation of the Year by the Atlanta Council of Volunteer Administrators (COVA). The nonprofit Gwinnett County Friends of Senior Services (Friends) nominated Primerica, which was recognized for its “extraordinary support of worthy causes and sustained volunteer outreach commitment to the community” during the COVA awards celebration in June.

For more than 30 years Primerica had helped with the delivering of meals to seniors through Friends, a nonprofit, volunteer organization that raises funds to support senior programs in Gwinnett County.

In other news, The Primerica Foundation, the new philanthropic arm of Primerica, funded grants totaling more than $600,000 in 2011 to 26 Metro Atlanta and Georgia nonprofits.

Primerica is one of the top 10 companies supporting the annual American Cancer Society’s Gwinnett County Relay for Life as well, and is the Presenting Sponsor for the 2012 Gwinnett Relay for Life.

CEOs Receive Entrepreneur Of The Year®

Ernst & Young LLP announced that Ryan Blair, Co-Founder and CEO of ViSalus, a health and wellness company, and Michael Fallquist, Founder and CEO of Viridian Energy, a provider of affordable, green energy, each received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2012 Award. The award, now in its 26th year, recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

The National Entrepreneur Of The Year Overall Award winner will be announced at the annual awards gala in California in November.

Blair received the award in the Consumer Products category in Michigan and Northwest Ohio while Fallquist was recognized in the Cleantech category in New York.

CieAura Launches in Australia

Nevada-based CieAura, LLC will now introduce its holographic chips and CX2 Plus Wristbands through independent retailers throughout Australia.

Already established in Southeast Asia with distribution centers in Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, CieAura plans to support the new Australian market through its Singapore staff for the short term, with a focus on building out the necessary infrastructure as warranted, based on growth.

In the past decade, overall trade between the United States and Australia has grown almost 100 percent. Sales by members of the Direct Selling Association of Australia have reached $1.6 billion annually.

CieAura launched in March 2010 and currently distributes CieAura Transparent Holographic Chips™ in 56 countries around the world.
