Amway Finalist for Secretary’s Award for Corporate Excellence
Amway China has been selected as one of 13 finalists for the Secretary of State’s 2011 Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE). These U.S. companies were chosen from 62 nominations submitted by American Ambassadors around the world. ACE finalists are international business leaders who recognize the vital role that U.S. businesses play abroad as good corporate citizens.
Amway China was chosen for the company’s contribution to the overall growth and development of the local economy in China by building up the business acumen and human capital of independent distributors; fostering entrepreneurship; recruiting locally, investing in building its workforce abilities, promoting its management staff from within; and fostering an environment of volunteerism.
The Secretary of State has awarded the ACE since 1999 to recognize American companies who lead in socially responsible activities and contribute to the overall growth and development of the local economy in which they work. The Department of State works with business to further these best practices worldwide and to recognize efforts to improve lives at home and abroad. The 2011 ACE winners will be announced at the annual ceremony hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton later this month.
Nu Skin to Acquire LifeGen Technologies
Nu Skin Enterprises Inc., the global direct seller of anti-aging products, has announced that it has executed a letter of intent to acquire LifeGen Technologies LLC, a genomics company based in Madison, Wis., for $11,662,500. The letter of intent includes the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of LifeGen, including its tissue bank, proprietary gene expression database, patents and intellectual property related to gene research. In connection with the transaction, the company will also enter into consulting agreements with LifeGen Co-Founders Richard Weindruch, Ph.D., and Tomas Prolla, Ph.D., and the two will continue to serve on the Nu Skin Anti-Aging Scientific Advisory Board.

The acquisition will further enhance Nu Skin’s position in the anti-aging industry by bringing LifeGen, a company based on more than 30 years of aging research, in house.
Pursuant to the terms of the letter of intent, the acquisition is subject to completion of a definitive purchase agreement, due diligence and other closing conditions. Assuming satisfactory due diligence, Nu Skin expects to close the acquisition prior to the end of the year.
