ViSalus Sales Increase Seven-Fold
ViSalus™, the lifestyle company delivering products via the Body by Vi™ 90-Day Challenge, announced that Blyth Inc. has completed the third of a four-phase acquisition of ViSalus. Under the terms of the acquisition agreement between Blyth and ViSalus, the acquisition payments are based on an amount equal to a multiple of ViSalus’ earnings. The amount on which the payments are based has increased to over $250 million for 2011, compared to approximately $16 million for 2010. ViSalus’ sales have increased to $231 million in 2011 from $34 million in 2010.
All three company co-founders—Ryan Blair, CEO; Blake Mallen, CMO; and Nick Sarnicola, top sales leader—have agreed to stay on with ViSalus in their current roles. The founders personally invested $14.6 million from the proceeds of the acquisition in restricted stock of parent company Blyth Inc., making them the largest inside shareholders after the Goergen family.
Launched in 2005 as ViSalus Sciences and now known as ViSalus, the company provides health benefits from weight loss and fitness milestones, or Challenges, to better one’s overall health and wellness.
2011 American Business Stevie Awards Announced
The finalists and winners of the 2011 American Business Stevie Awards have been announced. The Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and businesspeople worldwide. Beginning with The American Business Awards in 2002, The International Business Awards in 2003, The Stevie Awards for Women in Business in 2004, and the Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service in 2006, its mission is to raise the profile of exemplary organizations and individuals among the press, the business community and the general public.
The American Business Awards are judged each year by more than 200 executives nationwide. Sponsors include several of the top business publishers and marketers. Direct selling companies that were finalists for the 2011 Stevie Awards include Isagenix, Nu Skin, Relìv, Tahitian Noni, USANA, Vemma, MonaVie and Stream Energy.
Vemma was the winner for Best Tradeshow or Convention Award (Creative Awards Category).
AL International Launches Southeast Asia Sales
AL International Inc. has launched its Southeast Asia sales in the Philippines, the company’s starting point for penetrating markets in that part of the world.
At a kickoff event held in December 2011, more than 4,300 people crowded the SMX Convention Center in Manila to learn about AL International and its subsidiary, DrinkACT, which is leading the company’s sales efforts in Asia.
AL International recently established an office and distribution center in the Philippines as well as a distribution center in Singapore.
CEO Steve Wallach said that eight countries in the region had representatives at the launch event and that AL International is already engaged in efforts to open more Asian markets. He said that an office will be opened in Thailand in the first quarter of 2012 and that staff is already in place there. Taiwan and Indonesia are at the top of the list for the next phase of expansion as well, he added.
AL International is a multidimensional company with two divisions: Youngevity Essential Life Sciences, a direct sales company that offers healthy lifestyle products; and CLR Roasters, a coffee company that produces and distributes coffee to commercial and retail customers and is the maker of the JavaFit™ line of healthy coffees.
Tahitian Noni International Announces New Name
Tahitian Noni International (TNI), a worldwide direct seller of bioactive beverages, announced that at the upcoming International Leadership Conference in Salt Lake City in April the company will officially change its name in the United States to Morinda, with the tagline, Bioactives.
According to John Wadsworth, President of TNI, the new name is reflective of the origins of the company, with Morinda citrifolia being the scientific name for noni, but also covering its broader business focus on bioactives in 2012.
Also announced was a million-dollar sales promotion, a 90-day Fit Body Composition Challenge, and a new Fit Satellite Media Tour.
Morinda Bioactives is a global, research-driven bioactive products company that introduces the health benefits of the noni plant—a bioactive-rich adaptogenic plant containing iridoid compounds—to the world outside of Tahiti. Neways to Restructure
Neways Enterprises, a direct seller of dietary supplements and personal care products, has been in negotiations with its lenders to refinance the company’s capital structure and has reached an in-principle agreement with all of its lenders, according to CEO Scott St. Clair.
These negotiations have no effect on the day-to-day operations of the company and it remains business as usual. Final paperwork, including documentation and implementation of the agreement, is still to be completed, but according to St. Clair “we are definitely headed down the right path.”
Everything is expected to be finalized by the end of first quarter 2012.
Neways, established in Utah in 1992, provides more than 200 safe and effective nutritional and personal care products. Several hundred thousand active Neways distributors share the products in 28 countries, with one-half of the company’s annual product revenues paid back to distributors as commissions.
Latino Trendsetter Awards and Scholarships Announced
An Amway executive was among the prominent Latinos honored at the 2011 10th Annual Latino Trendsetter Awards, a benchmark celebration, held recently at The Marriot Marquis in New York City.
Paula Otero, Brand Manager, Amway Hispanic Brand Marketing North America, was a recipient of the Trendsetter Award along with others who have demonstrated excellence as leaders in business, education, entertainment, art, health, community service and more. Now in its historic 10th year, the Latino Trendsetter Awards acknowledges the Hispanic communities’ contributions to the popular culture. Nu Skin Breaks Ground on China HQ
Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. announced the ground-breaking for its new Greater China Innovation Park in Shanghai. The approximately $50 million state-of-the-art complex will serve as the headquarters for the Greater China region and feature anti-aging research and development laboratories as well as manufacturing facilities, modern meeting spaces and spacious green areas.
According to CEO Truman Hunt, the Nu Skin Innovation Park is to be the single largest Nu Skin corporate complex in the world and will be located in the heart of Shanghai ‘s Fengxian District. It will be situated on 57 acres and the facility will encompass approximately 355,210 square feet. The facility’s new anti-aging laboratories will also bring most of Nu Skin’s China-based scientists together.
The company anticipates the completion of the Innovation Park by mid-2013. The design and planning of the park was done by the one of the architects involved in the Shanghai World Financial Center project, one of the city’s premier landmarks.

Herbalife Enters Ghana
Herbalife Ltd. has officially opened for business in Ghana. The launch of operations also includes a distribution center located in Accra.
Ghana represents Herbalife’s further expansion within its Europe, Middle East and Africa region and is the company’s 39th market in Africa, and 79th total.
Herbalife is a global nutrition company that sells weight-management, nutritional and personal care products intended to support a healthy lifestyle. Herbalife products are sold in 79 countries through a network of approximately 2.5 million independent distributors.
American Cancer Society Recognizes The Pampered Chef
The American Cancer Society recently honored 17 companies, including The Pampered Chef, for their generous support of the society’s efforts to save lives and eliminate cancer as a public health burden. These companies received the Corporate Impact Award: Philanthropy during a ceremony at the society’s annual meeting. This award honors corporations that have given $1 million or more to the American Cancer Society in the previous calendar year through corporate philanthropy or in-kind support, cause marketing and sponsorship, employee giving, and team fundraising. This year’s winning corporations collectively contributed $36 million in 2010 to the society’s efforts to save lives and end cancer.

Primerica to Host Corporate Event for Canada
Primerica, the largest independent financial services marketing company in Canada, with more than 9,500 licensed representatives, hosted some 5,000 of its current and prospective independent representatives at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. This meeting was the first of six events across Canada, kicking off its 26th year in the country with business announcements and motivational speakers from within the company. In total, it is anticipated that more than 10,000 representatives and new recruits will attend these meetings, which will span six cities and provinces. In addition to Toronto, the other Kickoff meetings will be held in Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, Halifax and Winnipeg, respectively.
