Market America Acquires Shop. com

Market America announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the business of Shop.com, the comparison-shopping engine. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

MarketAmerica.com and Shop.com will continue to operate as separate websites through a transition period, while integration of the benefits of each company began immediately. Market America’s headquarters will remain in Greensboro, N.C., while Shop.com’s facilities in Monterey and Pasadena, Calif., and London, UK, will continue without disruption. The combined entity will have in excess of 650 employees.

The acquisition will combine Shop.com’s strength in technology and merchandising with Market America’s personal shopping experience.

Market America is a product brokerage and Internet marketing company that specializes in one-to-one marketing. With more than 6 million customers and 180,000 shopping consultants worldwide, the company has generated more than $3.4 billion in accumulated retail sales. Headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., the company was founded in 1992 by president and CEO James Ridinger and employs more than 600 people globally, with international operations in the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia and the Philippines.

Direct Selling Companies Donate $16.5 Million to Today Show Toy and Gift Drive

The Direct Selling Association announced that 41 direct selling companies donated a total of more than $16.5 million in products and cash to the Toy Drive. Of the participating companies, at least 10 were featured in their own spots on the Today show during the holiday season. In seven years of participation, DSA member companies have donated more than $70 million in products, services and cash to the Toy Drive.

Participating companies donated items from books, stuffed animals and fashion accessories to clothing and toiletries for children and families across the country.
Companies from the smallest, newest member applicants to the largest, most established companies participated in this effort. Donations ranging from a handful of products to more than $7 million in products were received.

    Nu Skin Marks Donation of 200 Millionth Meal

    Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. announced that more than 200 million meals have been donated to malnourished and hungry children around the world through its innovative social enterprise program, the Nourish the Children initiative. The result is more than 100,000 hungry children now are being nourished every day. Nu Skin distributors, customers and employees purchase and donate nutrient-dense VitaMeal as part of this humanitarian initiative the company introduced in 2002.

    Nourish the Children facilitates ongoing VitaMeal purchases, donations and distribution by uniting the strength of a for-profit initiative with the company’s global distributor network of 785,000 entrepreneurs and a humanitarian cause.

    Mannatech’s MannaRelief Donates to Fundacion Vamos Mexico

    Mannatech Inc. donated its PhytoBlend powder dietary supplement to MannaRelief through Mannatech’s Give for RealSM program. More than 5,000 children in 52 orphanages across four Mexican states received the Mannatech product through MannaRelief and its partnership with Fundacion Vamos Mexico.

    Mannatech’s Give for Real program is a unique ‘donation-through-consumption’ initiative designed to help consumers and social entrepreneurs meet the needs of underprivileged children around the world. The donation by MannaRelief to former Mexican President Vicente Fox’s and Marta Sahagún de Fox’s charity marks the first major donation made through the program. Mannatech and MannaRelief presented the product to Fundacion Vamos Mexico at a Dec. 7 press conference outside the Vicente Fox Center in Guanajuato, Mexico.

    USANA to Sponsor Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team

    USANA Health Sciences Inc. announced it will be the official health supplements supplier of the Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team. The team that continues to compete on the Continental Cup circuit and has been fighting for inclusion in the Olympic Winter Games has persevered on limited funding.

    Ski jumping is the only discipline in the Olympic Games that does not allow women to participate.

    In addition to sponsoring the Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team, USANA demonstrates its commitment to sports by sponsoring teams and organizations such as the Women’s Tennis Association, US Speedskating, USA Luge and many others.

    Avon Launches Avon Voices

    Avon Products Inc. launched Avon Voices, its first-ever global online singing talent search for women and songwriting competition for men and women, in celebration of its 125th anniversary. Avon invited people from more than 60 countries, along with its 6.2 million independent sales representatives, to ignite a global movement through music.

    Utah Business magazine recognized Nu Skin as being a “Best Company to Work For” in the larger company category for the second year in a row. Nu Skin was highlighted for its generous employee benefits and its uplifting, enriching culture that unites its worldwide employee force.

    Private Quarters Gives Warmth

    Private Quarters has donated more than $2,200 in bedding, bath and other items to the Minot, N.D., Domestic Violence Crisis Center in recognition of one of its consultants’ sales performance. The company provided robes, slippers, towels, totes, sheets, blankets, soaps and assorted other items to the center as part of its “Share the Comfort” event.

    The American Kitchen™ by Regal Ware Stainless Steel round cake pan has earned Consumers Digest’s “Best Buy” rating for 9-inch round cake pans. The rating was revealed to Regal Ware President & CEO Jeff Reigle in a Dec. 10, 2010, letter from Consumers Digest publisher Randy Weber.

    On average, the Consumers Digest Best Buy rating is awarded to fewer than 3 percent of the competing models in any given product category. The article will appear in the February 2011 issue of Consumers Digest.
