Investor’s Business Daily Names Direct Sellers as ‘Best of 2011’
Investor’s Business Daily recently named its “Best of 2011,” a list of top 100 companies of 2011 based on stock performance. Among such well-known companies as MasterCard, Dominos Pizza, Elizabeth Arden and Dish Network, the list included direct sellers Blyth, parent company to PartyLite and ViSalus, at No. 41, followed by Nu Skin at No. 51, Herbalife at No. 84 and Kirby at No. 90.
Blyth Inc., headquartered in Greenwich, Conn., is a multi-channel company primarily focused on direct selling. The company designs and markets home fragrance products and decorative accessories, as well as weight management products, nutritional supplements and energy drink mixes through PartyLite and ViSalus. These products are sold through the home party plan method of direct selling and through network marketing, respectively.
Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. has established a comprehensive anti-aging product portfolio, offering independent business opportunities and pursuing corporate social responsibility initiatives. Nu Skin operates in 52 markets worldwide and has more than 825,000 independent distributors.

The Kirby Company, a direct seller of vacuum cleaners and home cleaning accessories, is a subsidiary of the Scott Fetzer Company, which is part of Berkshire Hathaway. Kirby became a direct selling company in the 1920s, and today its home care systems are sold in more than 70 countries.

Youngevity Founder Receives Scientific Award
Youngevity® Essential Life Sciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of AL International, announced that Founder Dr. Joel D. Wallach, BS, DVM, ND, is the 2011 recipient of the Klaus Schwarz Commemorative Medal. This prestigious award, sponsored by the International Association of Bioinorganic Scientists Inc. (IABS), recognizes the work of pioneers in the field of trace element research and is named after Klaus Schwarz (1914-1978), a leading trace element researcher best known for his discovery of the essentiality of selenium.
The IABS cited Wallach’s groundbreaking discovery in 1978 of an animal model of cystic fibrosis, a disease that affects 70,000 people worldwide. This suggested that cystic fibrosis—at the time believed to be a genetic disorder of humans only—could also be the result of selenium deficiency, and that some forms of cystic fibrosis might be preventable.
Dr. Wallach currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. announced that it has been named one of the world’s fastest growing public companies in The International Business Times’ 2011 IBT 1000 listing.
The 2011 IBT 1000 Fastest Growing Companies list ranks companies using its three-year revenue Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), with each year’s revenue calculated on the basis of the last 12 months. The three-year CAGR of Nu Skin Enterprises is 10.1 percent.
The International Business Times is an online global business newspaper, comprising 18 editions published in 10 languages. It is among the top three online business newspapers in the world.
Tupperware Launches Program to Educate Iraqi Women
Harnessing education to empower women, Tupperware Brands announced the creation of the Tupperware Global Links Program, a yearlong externship designed to inspire a new generation of Iraqi women entrepreneurs and, in turn, help strengthen the country’s struggling economy. Tupperware, a longtime World Economic Forum (WEF) participant, is also connected to WEF’s Global Gender Parity Group and thinks the program exemplifies this year’s conference theme: The Great Transformation – Shaping New Models.
Developed in partnership with the U.S. Secretary of State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues and Rollins College, the Global Links program will sponsor a female Iraqi professor in the United States for one year. The two-part program includes a hands-on externship at Tupperware’s headquarters in Orlando and an academic year in residence at nearby Rollins College, where she will participate in a specially designed curriculum focused on entrepreneurship, women business ownership and financial self-sufficiency. The program’s purpose is to enable the professor to return to Iraq and impart her training on hundreds of Iraqi university students.
Dr. Amel Abed Mohammed Ali, professor and head of the Department of Industrial Management in Babylon University’s College of Administration & Economics, has been selected as the inaugural Global Links scholar.
The Global Links pilot began in January and will continue through December, with Tupperware expecting to keep the program ongoing.

Neways Launches New Charitable Program
Formalizing its already-existing program for donations and humanitarian efforts, Neways announced the formation of the Neways Gives program. The effort commences with a partnership between Neways and the Mali Rising Foundation to construct a school in an impoverished area of Mali, West Africa.
Mali Rising Foundation has constructed 12 schools in Mali, the fourth most impoverished nation in the world. The founder, Yeah Samake, is a graduate of Brigham Young University and has close ties to Utah. He currently resides in Mali and is running for the office of president of that nation while participating closely in the running of the foundation.
Mali Rising Foundation obtains part of the funding for the schools from private donations and part from the villages and government. The construction of the schools provides jobs to villagers, who help build, maintain and teach at the schools.
As part of the Neways Gives program, Neways also participated in donations for the Road Home homeless shelter and has announced its participation with the March of Dimes in 2012.
