Avon Executive Chairman Andrea Jung to Step Down from Board

Avon Products Inc. announced that Andrea Jung has informed the board of directors that she will step down as Executive Chairman and board member, effective Dec. 31, 2012, after a successful transition to new leadership under CEO Sheri McCoy. Jung will continue as a senior advisor to the board beginning on Jan. 1, 2013.

Fred Hassan, currently lead independent director, will succeed Jung next year and assume the position of non-executive Chairman on Jan. 1. Hassan is a managing director and partner at Warburg Pincus and the former Chairman and CEO of Schering-Plough Corp.

Avon, the company for women, is a leading global beauty company, with over $11 billion in annual revenue. As the world’s largest direct seller, Avon markets to women in more than 100 countries through over 6 million active independent Avon Sales Representatives.

Mary Kay’s CMO Named 2012 Global Marketer

Sheryl Adkins-Green, Mary Kay Inc.’s Chief Marketing Officer, received the Academy of Marketing Science’s 2012 “Global Marketer Award” at the organization’s annual World Marketing Congress recently in Atlanta.

Adkins-Green is the first recipient of this distinction by the AMS as 2012 marks the inaugural bestowment of the Global Marketer Award by the professional society. The award is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated a history of supporting and appreciating the role of marketing and its contribution to global market development.

Adkins-Green joined Mary Kay in 2009 as Vice President for Global Brand Development. She was appointed CMO in July 2011 and leads the team responsible for brand positioning, new product development, advertising, packaging and digital marketing. She has overseen the creation and deployment of new technology-based marketing tools for the company and its 2.4 million independent beauty consultants.

Prior to joining Mary Kay, Adkins-Green held senior marketing positions in other companies and was honored for her professional achievements and community involvement by Black Enterprise in 2010 as one of the 75 most powerful women in business. She is a member of the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business Senior Marketing Executive Advisory Board.

Mary Kay is one of the world’s largest direct selling companies with more than $3 billion in annual wholesale sales worldwide. Mary Kay was founded in 1963 by Mary Kay Ash, and today sells its skin care and color cosmetics products in more than 35 countries around the world.

Direct Sellers on List of Top Technology Innovators

Ambit Energy, a national retail energy provider, and Primerica Inc., an independent financial services marketing company, were recognized on the 2012 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators, an annual listing of the nation’s most innovative users of business technology.

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation’s most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.

Direct Selling CMOs Ranked Among ExecRank Top List

The ranking committee of ExecRank has listed CMOs of a number of direct selling companies on its list of “Top Marketing Executives.” MonaVie’s Jeff Cohen came in at No. 35, followed by Stella and Dot’s Anna Fieler at No. 39. Also on the list were Mary Kay Inc.’s Sheryl Adkins-Green at No. 212; Tupperware Brands Corp.’s Morgan Hare at No. 381; Avon Product Inc.’s Michael Schwartz at No. 392; and (parent company of Amway) Alticor Inc.’s Candace Matthews at No. 454.

ExecRank screened and evaluated over 15,000 marketing executives this year to rank the top 500. The rankings are the result of two years of research and feedback from evaluation committees and top CMOs that yielded an algorithm for how to rank CMOs based on their performance in 24 key areas.

2012 has seen a heavy focus on social media marketing and strategic partnerships as well as innovative engagement strategies that show a positive return on investment. This and other forms of thought leadership factored heavily into these rankings as well.

Relìv Finalist for Healthiest Employers Awards

The St. Louis Business Journal has named Relìv International Inc. as one of the finalists of its annual Healthiest Employers Awards.

According to the SLBJ, the awards recognize companies and nonprofit organizations that make wellness a priority and proactively shape the health of their employees.

Finalists were featured in the Oct. 5 edition of the SLBJ with winners announced at an awards ceremony Oct. 4 at the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Business Journal is a member publication of The Business Journals, a media solutions platform for companies strategically targeting business decision makers. The company delivers to a total business audience of over 10 million people via 42 websites, 61 publications and over 700 annual events.

Relìv International Inc., based in Chesterfield, Mo., produces nutritional supplements that promote optimal nutrition along with premium skincare products. The company sells its products through an international network marketing system of independent distributors in 15 countries.

Team National Honored by Feed the Children

Team National was recently recognized by Feed the Children for its support and dedication to the foundation. Following its philosophy of paying it forward, Team National gives on the local and national level through their Charities of Choice. Since 2005, the company has donated a total of $454,750 to Feed the Children, a nonprofit relief organization that provides hope and resources for those without life’s essentials.

Alan Harkey, Regional Director of Donor Relations from Feed the Children, came to Team National headquarters to present the company with an award recognizing their years of continued support “bringing help and hope to thousands of children and families in need.”

Founded in 1979, Feed the Children is one of the largest international charities in the United States, based on private, nongovernment support. Feed The Children is a nonprofit relief organization with headquarters in Oklahoma City.

Amway Honors Hispanic Heritage Month

From Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, Americans of all ethnicities honored the contributions of American Latinos—totaling nearly 51 million—by celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Amway, one of the largest direct selling companies in the world, joined in this celebration. It partnered with broadcast networks Discovery en Espanol and Discovery Familia to create a campaign—“Momentos de Calidad” (“Quality Moments”)—to encourage Hispanics to share those special moments of growing up in Latin America.

Amway, Discovery en Espanol and Discovery Familia promoted a contest online asking people which memories from growing up in Latin America they yearned for. Mariela Sanchez, from Kissimmee, Fla., shared the first “quality moment” that came to mind: seeing her whole extended family—grandparents, siblings, uncles and cousins—around the dinner table on Sundays.

Some of her experiences at parks, plazas and markets in Mexico were captured on video and could be seen in three 60-second segments on Discovery Espanol and Discovery Familia during Hispanic Heritage Month. Followed by a Discovery crew and with her husband and two daughters by her side, Sanchez toured places such as the Basilica de Guadalupe and the archaeological site in Teotihuacan.

Founded in 1959 and based in Ada, Mich., Amway is one of the world’s largest direct selling businesses and a member of the Alticor family of companies. Amway offers consumer products and business opportunities in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide through more than 3 million independent business owners.

CVSL to Be Led by Direct Selling Veteran

The closing of the first step of transactions between Computer Vision Systems Laboratories Corp. (CVSL) and Rochon Capital Partners Ltd. has taken place, as CVSL’s new chairman, longtime direct selling executive John P. Rochon, outlined goals for an acquisition strategy for CVSL in the global direct selling channel.

Rochon announced that his plan is to make CVSL the platform for a broad strategy of acquiring multiple privately held direct selling companies.

Rochon is Chairman of Dallas-based Richmont Holdings. He has owned, invested in and managed dozens of businesses in a wide variety of global industries over his nearly 40-year career.

Rochon noted that he wanted to offer owners of privately held direct selling companies a way to monetize their ownership while continuing to stay active in the business. This will also offer that company’s salesforce the opportunity to participate in a portfolio of direct selling companies.

CVSL issued 438,086,034 shares of restricted common stock to Rochon Capital, representing 90 percent of the outstanding shares of CVSL’s common stock. Rochon is now CVSL’s CEO, sole director and Chairman.

Multipure Marks 30 Years in Industry

In honor of this milestone, Multipure’s Celebrate 30 (C30) convention will take place Nov. 2–4 with President Zachary Rice to deliver his first Presidential State of the Industry Address on the water treatment industry, offering his thoughts and insights to a gathering of friends, colleagues and affiliated entrepreneurs.

Raised within the family water treatment business, Zachary Rice took on his new role in March, continuing the work started by the company’s founders—his father, Alvin Rice, and uncle, H. Allen Rice.

Also featured at C30 will be Multipure University, an array of business, technical and marketing classes presented by executives, employees and Multipure distributors as well as an awards presentation and recognition for the most productive, dynamic and inspiring distributors of the past year.

Founded in 1970, Multipure is a manufacturer and distributor of drinking water systems and compressed solid carbon block filters. Headquartered in Las Vegas, Multipure established its network marketing program in 1982.

XANGO Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

XANGO LLC kicked off its 10th-anniversary celebration recently with a gathering of several thousand company distributors in Las Vegas. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary, XANGO launched a commemorative bottle of XANGO® Juice, along with new products designed to address sleep quality, weight management and quality of life.

Reflecting upon the company’s first 10 years, XANGO founders highlighted some key milestones: more than 2 million independent distributors; operating in 43 countries, with 27 offices and 49 distribution centers; $2 billion in cumulative revenues; more than 100 millionaires created, averaging approximately one per month; 1,700 surgeries provided for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate; and about 5 million supplemental meals delivered to the world’s  malnourished.

Launched from a small leased office suite in September 2002, XANGO has grown to encompass a global headquarters that spans more than 30 acres in Lehi, Utah, as well as 27 international offices. XANGO founders chose Sept. 11, 2002, as their date of incorporation, hoping to attach a positive association with the date that just one year previous had been linked to tragedy.

Blackstone to Acquire Vivint for $2+ Billion

Vivint Inc., a Provo, Utah-based solar, security and home automation company, will be acquired by the end of 2012 by global investment firm Blackstone Group LP, valuing the company around $2 billion. Vivint is a provider of security, home automation and technology services. According to Founder Todd Pederson, Vivint began as a residential security company, but now considers itself a “platform” company offering multiple home automation services to the masses without significant upfront equipment costs.

As part of the deal, Blackstone acquires Vivint Solar, which provides affordable solar power to residential customers and 2GIG Technologies, a developer of security and automation equipment.

Blackstone was founded in 1985 and is the second largest private equity firm in the world.

Nu Skin Announces China Expansion Plans

Nu Skin has announced initial details of its five-year business development plan for mainland China. The plan includes tripling the number of stores and sales support centers by 2017 and expanding its direct selling coverage and distribution model to generate higher levels of market penetration.

Nu Skin’s plan includes updating existing outlets throughout China and expanding physical locations. In addition, Nu Skin has initiated the construction of a new Innovation Park and Greater China regional headquarters in Shanghai. This facility is scheduled for completion near the end of 2013.

Now that the company has been approved to conduct direct selling over a broad geographic area, Nu Skin plans to expand its direct selling operations. It will also expand its distribution with the addition of “independent marketers” to its existing multichannel business model.

Nu Skin initially commenced operations in China in 2003 with retail stores and employees. The company has since received direct selling licenses in over 50 cities or districts covering 15 provinces.

Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. is an anti-aging company specializing in both skin care and nutrition. The company operates in 53 markets worldwide and has approximately 900,000 active distributors and preferred customers.

LifeVantage Announces Continued International Expansion

LifeVantage Corp., a science-based nutraceutical company, announced plans to further expand operations in Japan and to enter the market in Hong Kong.

The company hosted a grand opening event in Tokyo on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 to celebrate the official opening of its new Tokyo office. For the past two years, LifeVantage has been selling its Nrf2 Synergizer dietary supplement Protandim® and its anti-aging skin cream LifeVantage TrueScience® in Japan using a “not-for-resale” model.

In addition, the company announced that it is exploring the opportunity to sell its products in Hong Kong. LifeVantage is in the late stages of regulatory and legal reviews of the opportunity and believes that it should be able to begin selling product in Hong Kong through a network of independent distributors within the next three to six months.

LifeVantage is a leader in Nrf2 science that looks to transform wellness and anti-aging internally and externally with products that reduce oxidative stress at the cellular level. The company was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Salt Lake City.

AdvoCare to Sponsor Phoenix NASCAR Race

AdvoCare International LP, a health and wellness company, announced they will be the title sponsor for the Phoenix International Raceway’s Nov. 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race.

AdvoCare is also the primary sponsor of rising star Austin Dillon and the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for legendary owner Richard Childress Racing. AdvoCare is also the title sponsor for the Labor Day Weekend NASCAR Sprint® Cup Series at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The AdvoCare 500, the semifinal race in the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, will be the feature event during the Nov. 11 race weekend.
