Legal ShieldPre-Paid Legal Services Announces New Direction

On Sept. 10, LegalShield(SM)—formerly known as Pre-Paid Legal Services (PPL)—was announced as the new operating name of the company before thousands of independent sales associates gathered in the American Airlines Center in Dallas for the 2011 Leadership Summit.

The new corporate name for the 40-year-old company is part of an overall rebranding initiative that follows the acquisition of PPL by MidOcean Partners on June 30. Other elements of the rebranding include: new literature, training and web outreach. In other respects, the company will operate as it has in the past, providing its services to members (customers) throughout North America.

An estimated 10,000 independent associates from throughout the United States and Canada attended the September Summit to hear first-hand the enhancements in direction of the company.

PPL’s new CEO Rip Mason and Chief Commercial Officer Alan Fearnley shared the new vision for the company, which will build upon the stability and strength of PPL, while boosting the potential for major growth initiatives moving forward.

Direct Selling Companies Rank on Inc. 500 list

Inc. magazine has named Scentsy the 85th fastest-growing company in the country on its 2011 Inc. 500 list and the largest company by revenues among the top 200. The party-plan fragrance company’s 2010 revenues of $381.8 million and three-year sales growth rate of 2,904.4 percent earned it this prominent place on the magazine’s 30th annual listing of the nation’s fastest-growing private businesses.

Scentsy, based in Meridian, Idaho, also ranked as the No. 1 fastest-growing direct selling company on the 2011 list and No. 9 among all consumer products and services companies. Last year Scentsy was No. 19 on the Inc. 500 list and the No. 1 fastest-growing consumer products and services company.

Ambit Energy, a Dallas-based energy provider of electrical and natural gas services in deregulated markets across the United States, also was included in the top 500 list at No. 390.

Herbalife Family Foundation Helps Children in Beijing

The Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF), a non-profit organization that helps bring good nutrition to children at risk, gave a grant to the SOS Children’s Village in Beijing to help the organization provide good nutrition to the children in its care.

The grant will establish a Casa Herbalife program to enhance the charity’s annual food budget in order to offer more nutritious meals, and it will provide funds for improving and updating the organization’s kitchen facilities.

SOS Children’s Village Beijing is a social welfare institution that adopts orphans and children whose parents are not able to raise them. After an initial grant from HFF, local Herbalife sales employees in China and staff will support the program through volunteerism and fundraising. This is the second Casa Herbalife program in China and the 66th Casa Herbalife program worldwide.

Tupperware Celebrates Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa

Tupperware Brands Southern Africa and Tupperware Brands Chairman and CEO Rick Goings recently hosted a ceremony near Johannesburg to celebrate the opening of the first-ever Boys & Girls Club of South Africa (BGCSA).

Using the Boys & Girls Clubs of America after-school program as a model, the newly established Club was largely funded by Tupperware Brands Southern Africa with a pledge of 1 million rand (US$141,237).

The City of Johannesburg’s Department of Community Development has partnered with BGCSA to focus on implementing programs designed to positively impact the out-of-school experience that occurs during the crucial, unsupervised hours when at-risk youth in disadvantaged communities are neither at school nor at home and are most prone to destructive influences.

The new Club will be led by youth development professional Casey Bridges, son of actor Beau Bridges.

Regal Ware Celebrates 100 Years

Marking 100 years of manufacturing high-quality cookware in the United States, Regal Ware, a privately-held, family-run company, held its Celebration of a Century! on Sept. 24 at its manufacturing facility in West Bend, Wis.

Regal Ware has been crafting high-quality stainless steel cookware and cast-aluminum cookware in the United States since the founding of its West Bend Cookware Division in 1911. Once friendly competitors, Regal Ware acquired the assets of the West Bend Co. in 2002. As a result, Regal Ware’s manufacturing history now dates back 100 years. Among its 400 current employees, more than 80 percent have been with the company for 25 years or more.

Regal Ware also hosted factory tours for the general public as part of its Celebration of a Century! in West Bend. Special guest to mark the occasion was Leo W. Gerard, international president of the United Steel Workers Union, who was recently appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations.

Relìv Announces Agreement with Missouri Plant Science Center

Relìv International Inc. announced a new joint research and development relationship with the Missouri Plant Science Center at Relìv’s 23rd annual international conference held recently in St. Louis.

Relìv, a maker of nutritional supplements that promote optimal health, will be the first corporate partner to join plant science center managing tenant Soy Labs LLC of Mexico, Mo., a major soy-based ingredient supplier to the nutrition industry.

The Missouri Plant Science Center is a joint venture of the Missouri Technology Corp., the University of Missouri and the city of Mexico. It will serve the nutraceutical, cosmeceutical, medical food, natural/specialty foods and other industries.  

The center will combine the most advanced plant science research with pilot manufacturing capabilities. Scientific researchers, plus business and industry experts, will work together at the plant center to move concepts from the laboratory to production and finally to the global marketplace.

SeneGence International® Expands into Italy

After 11 years of exponential growth in the United States, Australia, Canada, and more recently Indonesia and the United Kingdom, SeneGence International, a direct sales company specializing in long-lasting cosmetics and anti-aging skincare, announces its expansion into Italy. Consumers in Italy will now have the opportunity to purchase patented LipSense® liquid lip color, as well as LipSense Gloss and Ooops!® Remover.

According to unipro.org, the Italian Association of Cosmetic Industries, the Italian cosmetics industry grew by 5.2 percent in 2010.

The launch of LipSense through direct sales in Italy marks one of many countries that SeneGence and its independent distributor salesforce are expanding to this year.

Numis Network Launches in the United Kingdom

Numis Network, a direct seller of museum-quality collectible silver and gold coins, commenced pre-launch of its business in the United Kingdom Sept. 1. The official launch is expected to be on Nov. 1. Established in 2009 and based in Tampa, Fla., the company is the first and only of its kind in the United States offering graded, certified and government-issued numismatic coins through the direct selling business model. Currently, Numis Network operates in the United States and Canada, but executives plan to continue expansion into Europe and Australia this year, with an aggressive international strategy to come into play in 2012.

MICHE BAG Unveils New Direct Sales Business Model

Handbag company Miche Bag has announced a new business model, opening the doors for more Miche Bag representatives to become successful entrepreneurs.

With its new direct sales business model taking effect Oct. 1, representatives will no longer have to enter the business through a regionally located distributor, providing a means for them to have more personal control over their businesses and their potential party plan earnings. Anyone can now become an independent Miche representative with just a small initial product purchase and begin selling the full collection of handbags right away.

Founded in 2007, Miche Bag has grown from a small start-up based out of CEO Corbin Church’s home to an established company with thousands of representatives worldwide selling unique handbags through home-based Miche Parties.
