The Longaberger Co., maker of handcrafted baskets and known for its American craftsmanship for nearly 40 years, announced that it has begun the process of transitioning its full line to American-made products.
CEO and President Tami Longaberger made the announcement at the company’s recent annual national sales convention in Columbus, Ohio. A number of years ago Longaberger’s source of American-made pottery moved its manufacturing overseas, which led Longaberger to import pottery in order to meet its customers’ needs. She said she wanted to make this change to return the company to its fundamentals and help bring jobs back to America.
The company estimates that its transition to U.S. sourcing for the entire line will create at least 500 American jobs. The transition will take several years, and an internal team has already begun work on a plan for converting the product line to American-made, an effort the company has named Project Eagle. Longaberger has enough space at its basket-making campus to house a pottery-making operation, and partnerships with existing vendors may help speed the process.
A privately held company, the Longaberger Co.’s headquarters is located in Newark, Ohio, and its manufacturing campus is in Dresden, Ohio. Its independent salesforce is located throughout the United States.
