TikTok videos will soon offer shoppable products, allowing users to buy items directly through the app’s short videos. Previously, users could only shop through ads.
The app is in partnership with ecommerce company Shopify, who will enable businesses to create storefronts on their profiles with links that go directly to their online stores to checkout.
This announcement comes as a missed opportunity for the direct selling industry, since in December 2020, TikTok announced an update to its community guidelines that prohibited multilevel marketing promotions, including the channel under its “Frauds and Scams” subsection.
